Good summary of the storm as of this morning. Mersereau runs a strong blog imo.

Scary shit. I feel for the people in its path. Can't even imagine.

As someone on The Vane commented, this might be the birth of Category 6.

Let that sink in.

Wow, it went from a tropical storm to a Cat 5 in ONE DAY. Unreal, especially over those colder pacific waters. I guess El Niño really did give this thing a steroid shot.

A coworker’s friend and their entire extended family of 50+ people (mostly US Americans) are in Puerto Vallarta right now for a wedding that was going to be tomorrow.

It’s tempting to say “Been there, done that”, but coming from a country who eats Cat5+ super storms almost every storm season, 205-207 mph is still too harrowing.

195 is bad enough (see: Typhoon Haiyan), but 205 is beyond fucked up. And that’s just sustained wind speed.

My nightly prayer is modified a bit for tonight and until this all ends. May Our Lady be there to protect and bless those who will be hit.

Signed,

Filipino who knows the pain and fear and suffering during and after a cyclone.

They need to get out of there quickly.

I think they’re working on it. Not logistically easy on vacation with all those people, but I think they’re planning to move inland and wait a couple days, assuming the town is destroyed while they’re away. Inconvenience and lost money is one thing — death and injury is a whole different beast.

So basically this is going to wipe certain areas off the map, then.

Damn.

Just think of it as a 150-mile wide F3 tornado.

Yeah, I’m sitting here mad and depressed as I deal with the aftermath of lightning striking our house this morning and water still pouring through the roof. Then I remember that no one got hurt and a lot of people are going to have it a lot worse in the very near future. Although it doesn’t make me feel “better,” it at least puts my family’s little misfortune into perspective.

Jesus, I’ve never seen black on radar. Scary is right, here’s hoping for safety for those in its way.

I really hope no one will be in its way. Everyone needs to evacuate the area.
